The SALT Box Therapy approach

The SALT Box Therapy approach

What we offer
What we offer

Speech and language assessments
Our therapists are equipped to provide detailed assessments for a range of speech and language difficulties including the following:
• phonological delays and impairments
• oral and verbal dyspraxia
• receptive language delays and impairments
• expressive language delays and impairments
Our therapists use a range of formal, standardized assessment batteries alongside more informal assessment techniques to navigate the complex relationships between the development of receptive and expressive language. Using a combination of information from parents and carers, school staff observations, standardized assessment scores and informal observations, our therapists can create a speech and language profile detailing strengths and areas of development for each individual.
Speech and language assessments are often combined with social communication assessments to build a complete picture of each individual and consequently take time. To complete a full assessment including a detailed assessment report can take between 8 and 15 hours depending on the complexity of the case.

Social communication assessments
• the understanding and use of abstract and ambiguous language
• how we use language in social situations
• perspective taking
• understanding how our behaviour can impact those around us
• understanding how other people’s behaviours can impact us
• social observational skills

Assessments to support/ update EHCPs
Our therapists are fully equipped to manage the assessment and report writing process required from local authorities when an individual or their parents/ carers are applying for or updating an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).
Assessments would generally take place in an individual’s educational setting and/or at home depending on each individual case.
Our therapists take care to provide detailed evidence to support any recommendations relating to support within schools, colleges or universities as well as any specific speech and language therapy management and intervention.
Therapists are available to attend Annual Review meetings and provide an up-to-date report if requested.

Multidisciplinary assessments

Therapy and therapeutic support within schools, colleges and universities
The SALT Box therapists believe that a multidisciplinary approach to intervention is the most effective way in which to support an individual reach their potential. It is therefore critical that therapists work in conjunction with teachers, educational staff, parents or carers
and any other professionals involved in the care
and management of a young person. In this way, it is possible to support an individual to practice ideas and strategies in as many different settings as possible, increasing the generalization of a particular skill.

Therapy and therapeutic support in the workplace
- supporting our clients by providing practical therapy, advice and strategies to manage potential challenges in the work place.
- supporting work place colleagues to manage their working environment and communication styles to accommodate our clients specific needs.
