The SALT Box is a small, highly experienced Speech and Language Therapy practice working predominantly in the South Northamptonshire, Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire areas. The practice provides support to children, adolescents, young adults and their families so that individuals can fulfil their potential by improving their speech, language and social communication skills.

Following detailed assessment and observation, our realistic and honest prognosis helps to guide future plans, which pay careful attention to the hopes and expectations of both clients and their families. We adopt a multi-disciplinary team approach when needed which helps individuals to maximize their potential.

Support can come in many forms and we take pride in tailoring assessments, therapies and recommendations to the specific needs of each individual. We are mindful of the stress and anxiety that can accompany assessment and work closely with all those involved in the care and management of the client to make the experience as relaxed as possible.

Communication is one of the fundamental skills we use every day, in all aspects of our lives – daily living skills, building and maintaining friendships, attaining academic qualifications, developing literacy and numeracy skills, sharing jokes, understanding other people’s behaviours and making sense of the perspectives of others, to name a few.

The SALT Box aims to raise awareness of an individual’s strengths and challenges amongst professionals and carers, as well as helping clients gain a more complete understanding of their own positive attributes and areas of need.

Maria is everything you hope for in a Speech and Language therapist. She has worked with our Autistic son over a number of years and wrote a report that we were able to use (successfully) when we had to go to Tribunal.

Firstly, she has a lot of experience, this shines through in the way she communicates and approaches things, secondly she is able to relate to all stakeholders, whether the child, parents, fellow professional or education setting. She does this without ever coming across as patronising; indeed the way in which she operates gives huge confidence to all involved. Her verbal and written communication are both strong and we felt very informed throughout the process and therapy. In fact I would say that she went above and beyond. Compared to other “chain” or “practice” set ups, then Maria simply does not compare. We never felt we were a money making exercise; on a conveyer belt of pointless generic form filling and out of the box solutions. In fact everything felt highly personalised. The result was positive. I do not put that down to anything other than Maria’s approach, skills and knowledge. If you can get a teenage autistic boy to enjoy Speech and Language AND improve, then you really must be doing something right.

I have known Maria Bailey for the last few years. When she was my speech and language therapist i improved a lot. My reading, spelling and social skills got better.
